Alexia Somerville graduated in 1997 from the London College of Printing after completing a BA in Graphic and Media Design, her main focus being Photography and Art Direction. She set up a small design consultancy with a friend from St Martins, who later encouraged her to become a Stylist.
Through an agent she started dressing backstage on most of the main London Fashion Week shows in 1999 and through various connections in London and Paris she started shooting the visual stories she wanted to see in print.
It was not long before she was introduced to Nick Knight by her friend Liberty Ross, who had been asked by British Vogue to co-ordinate a team to shoot a story on her. Alexia was asked to work on this project with Nick, entitled ‘Forbidden Fruit’ which was to embody the delicate beauty and sexual undertones of fruits, flowers and of Liberty herself.
Later, she was commissioned by Isabella Blow to do a Super Deluxe Sportswear story for Tatler and many of the images here are from those issues ( Deluxe Denim, Big Dress, Halston and Purple & Gold ).
Since then she has done numerous editorial shoots for fashion/style publications around the world (UK, US, France, Spain, Sweden, Japan, Arab Emirates, Australia and New Zealand) not to mention her commercial advertising clients who have ranged from Olay, L’Oreal and Pretty Polly to Vauxhall Tigra, Azumit Yachts, Lux Shampoo with Rachel Weisz and Dulux to name but a few.
She has also been booked as a guest speaker on the topic surrounding style at the International design conference in Stockholm; Future Design Days, and to speak to Press from 20 countries around the world on Style and Trends in Madrid organized by Siemens.
She has also appeared to discuss current issues in the world of fashion and on trends on CNN news and interviews on the Fox network.
After a surprising personal call one morning from the Hollywood actress Rachel Weisz, asking to style her for the Vanity Fair Party at Cannes Film festival, Alexia went on to dress her for public appearances and manage her personal wardrobe in the UK and US. Inspired by Rachel’s comments about the ‘fairy godmother-like’ service she received, Alexia tailored a private styling and wardrobe management service called ‘Diamond Dust’ for those with more cash than dash.
Alexia has styled numerous music videos over the years but her best work came after being booked by Jake Nava to style videos for George Michael, Robbie Williams and Pink, as her work is geared towards 'big' characters and solo artists with a strong sense of style.
Alexia is based in London but works internationally and styles shows each season for various designers and is no stranger to the circuit in London and the Mercedes Benz Fashion Weeks in Los Angeles and Miami.
Alexia is currently the Fashion Editor of LUXURE magazine.
